Close to 140 volunteers and staff joined together in Kansas City for the AFS Outreach to Education Conference (OEC), held October 21-23, 2011. The OEC provided volunteers with the opportunity to develop a more comprehensive approach to collaborating with schools for hosting, sending and global competency in learning. Hosting, sending, and curriculum enrichment opportunities were integrated through the conference content. The main goal was to help volunteers understand how they can better position our local AFS presence in a more strategic way, and align our program offerings with schools’ needs. All of these combined are expected to better prepare AFS-USA for growth and to deliver our hosting and sending programs more effectively. The feedback from volunteer evaluations and the organizing committee was very positive.
