9/13/2007 - AFS Thailand Holds Orientation for 2008 Programs

The AFS annual English Thai Examination attracted more than 12,000 students from throughout the country. Students who passed then had individual and group interviews before the final selection is announced. AFS Thailand is committed to providing opportunities for Thai students to participate regardless of their financial situation. Through a special Financial Aid Fund, AFS Board of Directors appointed AFS special committee to consider partial or full annual scholarships for needed students, educators and volunteers.

AFS Thailand organized the 2-day Orientation for the benefits of 2,000 finalist students and their parents at the Miracle Grand Hotel on August 25-26, 2007. One of the highlights of the orientation is the country exhibition, consisting of exhibition booths to display and provide promotional materials. AFS recent returnees from each host country answer questions relating to host countries and AFS Programs. Partner organizations and local embassies had assisted in providing large quantity of materials which were greatly appreciated by students and their parents.

AFS Thailand invited keynote speaker Mrs. Cholchineepan Chiranond, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a former AFS returnee year 1967-1968. Other speakers were Mr. Nitiphoom Naowarat, and Dr. Somkiat Onwimol, both are natural fathers of returnees. They formed a panel that gave valuable experiences, as returnees and natural parents, to the very large audience on each day.

AFS Thailand are proud of the high standard of selection which produces about 750 qualified participants to take part in our year program successfully in more than 30 countries each year. Other preparation steps, including Program Orientation, Orientation Camp and Pre-Departure Orientation, will be organized during the subsequent year until students depart.
