8/1/2007 - Three Dot Dash! Looking for A Few Excellent Young People To Be Part of Global Teen Initiative in March 2008

AFS has been invited by the We Are Family Foundation(WAFF) to participate as a coalition partner in a very exciting and innovative new global teen initiative “Three Dot Dash’” launching in March 2008 in New York City and we want to bring it to the attention of all of our Partner organizations. This might just be an exciting opportunity for some of the many excellent young people we know in AFS!

About Three Dot Dash
Three Dot Dash is designed to recognize and support the efforts of teen leaders around the world who are actively working on projects that promote a more peaceful society by addressing issues related to basic human needs: food, water, health, shelter, safety and education.

Inspired by the late 13-year-old poet and peacemaker, Mattie J.T. Stepanek, Three Dot Dash is an innovative year-round leadership and mentoring program that teaches teen leaders how to “tell their stories” effectively using various forms of media, current technology and distribution methods to accelerate their leadership potential, advance their projects and mobilize peers and broader audiences around the world to action.

Three Dot Dash kicks off with a weeklong summit entitled “Just Peace” in New York City, March 29 – April 4, 2008. Twenty-five to 30 carefully selected global teen leaders between the ages of 13 -19 will convene, get to know each other, learn how to “tell their stories” via multiple media vehicles and distribution methods taught by experts in their fields, create a multi-platform Public Service Campaign that promotes their work and create an action plan oftheir own with a mentor who will guide them for one year after they return to their country. We will repeat this process year after year to create a sustainable program that will affect millions worldwide.

About We Are Family Foundation

In 2002, WAFF formed a coalition of 17 media corporations. Each organization donated their beioved children’s television characters’ likenesses and voices to participate in a three-minute “We Are Family” music video that was aired in its entirety on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and PBS as Public Service Announcement teaching children that even on an “interspecies level” people who are different can come together and be friends or work on a common cause. For more information see the WAFF website at www.wearefamily.org.
