3/5/2007 - Oscar for the AFS Alumni
Two German AFS alumni were leading actors in the film that won the Oscar for best foreign language film this year. “Das Leben der Anderen” (The Life of Others) directed by German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck won the coveted award. The AFS ex-participants who played the main roles in the film were Martina Gedeck (Germany to the United States exchange student in 1978-79,) who played the leading female role) and Ulrich Tukur (Germany to the United States exchange student in 1975-76,) whose character was a “Stasi” officer or a member of the East German secret police.
AFS Germany and the AFS Network congratulate both actors on their brilliant performances in this Oscar winning film.
