3/20/2008 - Prestigious State Award for Czech AFS volunteer

It is AFS Czech Republic’s great honor to announce that our Board member Jana Kousalová has been awarded a very prestigious prize: Volunteer of Eastern Czech region (organized by Civic Association SKP-CENTRUM ) a prize given by the state annually to volunteers who dedicate their free time to helping other people and spreading active citizenship. Hetman of Eastern Czech region handed over to Jana a ceramic sculpture of an angel and a diploma.

Jana’s contribution to AFS is immense. She has hosted three students and is a contact person, local Hosting Coordinator and Member of the Board. She has been working with AFS for more than three years. She has found a couple of families in the Eastern region, especially around the picturesque town of Jičín. In doing so, she interviewed 7 host families, placed the same number of students, and is an active contact person for 7 host schools for the 2007-2008 school year.

Among other 17 awarded volunteers was a Chapter President of Eastern chapter Petra Ferjenčíková. Like Jana, Petra has been working with AFS for more than three years. She and her family have hosted three students and she is taking care of local chapter development.

We would like to congratulate and thank both Jana and Petra for their enthusiastic work for AFS and their community. We wish them a lot of energy and motivation for their continuous work as volunteers for AFS Czech Republic and for being the best representatives of AFS’ mission and goals.
