11/1/2006 - JANUS September 2006 Is Here!

The Janus September 2006 highlights the AFS recent events and alumni reunions. The Janus promotes AFS remarkable and unique history and the organization’s major contribution to peace and intercultural understanding. The publication honors the AFS Founders – the World War II drivers and returnees, volunteers and early staff of the AFS student exchange program. We are pleased to bring you the news on AFS Leaders of Today – the former AFS participants who achieved recognition as diplomats, educators, business executives and involved members of their communities. Among today’s volunteers we honor the Galatti Award Winners of the AFS world. The current issue also features the AFS students’ memories of their bus trip stop in Washington, DC and meeting President John F. Kennedy.

AFS International Archives and Communications has been publishing The Janus since 1987. The publication’s name revokes one of the oldest of Roman gods. Janus was the god of beginnings and of openings – doors and windows – hence, two faces, one looking in, one out, or one looking to the past, one to the future.

We are interested in your stories describing your AFS experiences. If you have a good story that you would like to share, please send it to Eleanora Golobic, Archivist and Editor, AFS Intercultural Programs, 71 West 23rd Street, 17th Fl., New York, NY 10010 or e-mail eleanora.golobic@afs.org.
