6/5/2007 - AFS Thailand Hosts Press Conference to Launch Peace Petition Drive
AFS Thailand, lead by their Chairman, Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, organized a press conference for Mr. Francisco “Tachi” Cazal, President of AFS International at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok on May 7, 2007 in order to announce the worldwide Peace Petition Drive to celebrate AFS’ 60th Anniversary, as well as the 45th Anniversary of AFS Thailand.
A major, high profile undertaking for the AFS 60th anniversary year is a Peace Petition Drive to gather thousands of signatures to promote peace through intercultural understanding. The petition and signatures will be presented to the United Nations in a ceremony in connection with the World Peace Forum and the big celebrations organized by AFS International and AFS-USA in New York City in October.
During the event, one of our special guests, Mrs. Cholchineepan Chiranond, an AFS returnee (Year 1967-1968), spoke about her unforgettable impression and invaluable experiences while participating on the AFS Year Program in the United States. She was the Ambassador of Thailand to the Federal Republic of Germany before coming back to take up the position of Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The others being interviewed were Mrs. Maleeratana Pluemchitchom, AFS Trustee, and Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, both of whom are AFS returnees.
The interviews were afterwards nationally televised and appeared on several nationwide English and Thai newspapers and magazines. The event started the Peace Petition Drive off with a big bang in Thailand.
