The 2004 AFS Annual Report has as a theme “Making a difference today more than ever.” This theme is closely linked to initiatives designed to increase our worldwide visibility and fundraising capacity. We feature investing in AFS and investing in AFS’s initiatives to expand our network, grow stronger, innovate and bring more diversity into our participant population.
We prominently feature the “Assessment of the Impact of the AFS Study Abroad Experience” as it shows, based on scientifically grounded and independently conducted research, that “AFS is a Sound Investment” and that “AFS Works.” The results of the study show that AFS students had:
- Increased intercultural competence
- Increased knowledge of the host culture
- Increased fluency in the language of the host co0untry
- Less anxiety interacting with people from different cultures
- Increased friendship with people from other cultures
