Welcome to the 2013 AFS Academy, hosted by AFS Intercultura!AFS volunteers and staff from around the globe will convene at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo in Florence, Italy. The 2013 AFS Academy will take place from Friday, November 15—Wednesday, November 27.
The AFS Academy offers participants the opportunity to attend one or several one-to five day courses; listen and engage with internationally known internal and external evening speakers; participate in discussions of special interest groups; and visit and develop relationships with like-minded organizations, educators and business professionals in Italy, all in a campus-like setting. This environment affords attendees the opportunity to meet informally for meals, walks, and outings with colleagues to explore new ideas and share best practices that enrich participants both professionally and personally.
The AFS Academy is a residential educational program for AFS staff and volunteers. AFS participants from around the globe converge for a two week period to experience a cross-disciplinary learning environment. Offerings include:
· Courses taught by internal and external trainers and speakers
· Plenary sessions
· Learning labs
· Course sharing
· Meeting with others AFSers with similar or different responsibilities
· Individual and group conversations about AFS topics
· Fun evening events and social gatherings
Location
Grand Hotel Mediterraneo, Florence, Italy
The hotel is well known by AFS Interculura, and is in an ideal location about 15-minutes drive from the airport. The hotel faces the Arno River, and is within walking distance from Palazzo Vecchio, the Santa Maria Cathedral, Medici Chapels, Uffizi Gallery and other famous sites of Florence.
